Prophylaxis

Individual and foreseeing prophylaxis, like professional tooth cleaning (PTC) at the dental clinic, is the easiest way to healthy teeth. The PTC follows systematic examination and diagnosis. Usually, the following steps are included in such a routine:
Water-powder-Blaster
With this device a mixture of water and air is combined with a cleansing powder consisting of calcium carbonate, sodium carbonate or glycerine powder. This will remove stains and discolourings from the surfaces of the teeth.



Cleaning of gingival crevices
Cleasing of gingival crevices must be executed with maximum diligence and requires specialised knowledge and experience with the respective utensils to be applied.



Polishing the teeth
After the refined cleansing the teeth are polished. During the cleansing processes with the different substances the surface of the teeth has been roughened. This would simplify the creation of bacteria and plaques anew. To prevent this from happening, the surfaces are polished with diminutive rubber globes and brushes, applying polishing pastes of diverse concentrations.



Fluoridation
To finalise, the polished surfaces are fluoridated with a special solution or lacquer to prevent caries. Fluorides facilitate the remineralisation processes and protect the tooth surfaces from attacks through acids in the oral cavity.



Fissure Sealing
Fissures are little indentations, gaps and furrows on the chewing surfaces, which are prone to gather bacteria. Since they are hard to reach with tooth brushes, these bacteria can spread their acids through side products of their metabolism and create caries. To prevent this, these fissures are sealed.
